Behind Every Great Paint Job Is Solid Prep

It’s a common misconception that painting is quick and inexpensive—especially when the only visible product is a can of paint. But in reality, the majority of the cost in a professional paint job goes toward the labor involved in properly prepping the space. Paint itself isn’t the expensive part—it’s the detailed work that happens before any color is applied that makes the biggest impact on the final result.

Prep includes tasks like:

  • Masking and protecting floors, furniture, windows, and trim

  • Caulking gaps between trim and walls

  • Light sanding of walls and patched areas

  • Priming bare drywall or repaired surfaces

  • Cleaning off dust or contaminants that may interfere with adhesion

  • Taping clean lines for walls, ceilings, and transitions

  •

If a room was recently drywalled or patched, we also handle the process of priming, sanding, and smoothing the surface so paint lays down evenly and doesn't reveal seams, ridges, or dull spots. In many ways, a good paint job starts long before the brush hits the wall. When prep is rushed or skipped, paint can peel, show roller lines, or absorb unevenly—costing more to fix later.

Because we often take on projects right after finishing drywall work, we understand how important it is to transition smoothly into painting. We take the time to do things right: clean edges, even coats, and a long-lasting finish that doesn’t cut corners. That attention to prep is what makes the difference between an average job and a polished, professional one.
